"Mom's Kitchen #1"
by Steve Ausherman
sketchbook drawing 2013

I drew this sketch while home over the holidays five months ago. This is the view of my Mom's kitchen and dining room that I took in every time I had a meal as a kid, as this was drawn from "my place" at the table. The hanging phone on the wall and the hum of the fridge. The hutch and the cabinets. Brown wood and white/green linoleum. The large set of kitchen windows is off frame and to my left, illuminating the entire room. Memories of pleasure and pain. Memories of growing up. Memories of food and conversation. Memories of holiday meals. Smell of crock pot cooking down meat. The smells and sounds of home.

"Cottonwood Trunk"
by Steve Ausherman
sketchbook drawing
2014

This is a quick sketch that I did of a Cottonwood tree in the Bear Canyon area of the Sandia foothills. Our friends Jenn, Chuck and Jack took Denise and I camping at the Academy cabin that rests at the back of the Elena Gallegos trailhead area. A wonderful night of rustling leaves, stars over the city and campfire coals. S'mores and fleece jackets. Lizards and cactus.

"Art Room Morning"
by Steve Ausherman
sketchbook drawing
2014

This is a quick sketch of my art room drawn on a Wednesday morning.
I drew it while waiting for the students to arrive for first period.
Quiet and calm before the clatter of the day.

"Three Beer Taps"
by Steve Ausherman
sketchbook drawing
2014

I drew these three beer taps while hanging out at a local pub yesterday. Tough. Low lighting. Small subject a bit of a distance away. Fun. Conversation, laughter and music in the background.

"Intersection Juan Tabo & Haines Ave"
by Steve Ausherman
sketchbook drawing
2014

I had a wonderful morning off from work. Denise and I biked to Starbucks  and relaxed on the patio. I sketched the nearby intersection. I've never tried to draw the suburban sprawl of strip malls and businesses that comprise so much of my city of Albuquerque before. A first attempt. I'll try again.
